Trauma and Orthopaedic inpatient services are centralised at Basildon Hospital. A designated ward, Katherine Monk, is for patients who are having joint replacement and clean elective surgery, has been established to ensure that as far as possible elective surgery will not be delayed/postponed by emergency activity. Linford Ward and Bulphan Ward are dedicated trauma wards caring for patients with musculoskeletal injuries. There are dedicated daily trauma theatres.
Clinics
- Trauma Clinics
They are held at Basildon Hospital. There are daily Trauma and Orthopaedic sessions available to meet the demands of emergency trauma referrals. - Orthopaedic Outpatient Clinics
They are held at Orsett Hospital. Adult patients are seen most commonly with back problems, degenerative disease of the joints (especially hips and knees), and less severe orthopaedic conditions such as nerve entrapment syndrome and internal derangement of the knee. - Paediatric Orthopaedic Clinics
For children with gait problems, dislocated hips, clubfeet, cerebral palsy and other conditions.
COMBAT Team
COMBAT provides acute care for patients with hip and knee replacements in their own home:
- Home visits prior to hospital admission to assess the patient prior to admission to ensure that support services are in place as soon as the patient is fit for discharge
- Support and advice - anything from environmental assessments to meals-on-wheels and specialist equipment
