Key InformationBasildon University Hospital has the facilities to provide treatment and care for patients who have had a stroke, both immediately after the stroke and during rehabilitation. 24/7 stroke thrombolysis is available for appropriate patients and “One Stop” TIA clinics are available, 7 days a week.This ward specialises in acute stroke care and the acute medical care of older patients Ward staff closely monitor stroke patients to ensure that their condition remains stable with the view of transferring patients to the stroke rehabilitation ward (Lister Ward) when appropriate. The ward’s multi-disciplinary team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, Speech and Language therapist who work with stroke patients from admission to ensure optimum recovery Doctors rounds, Physiotherapist and Occupational health are completed in the mornings with some rehabilitation being undertaken in the afternoon. Patients rest period is between 13.00pm - 14.00pm. The ward offers a 24 hour thrombolysis service and has six Stroke Sisters to cover this service.
