Key InformationThe Acute Medical Unit – East, (which is open 24 hours every day of the year) accepts patient referrals from GPs, community services and A&E, and is where patients needing acute medical care will first be assessed so that their further treatment and care can be planned. This may be admission into hospital, or patients may be discharged home where appropriate. In addition to general medical care, the ward provides: • Nurse-led patient assessment
• Tests and investigations, so that a diagnosis can be made
• Treatment for all medical conditions
• Dedicated pharmacist
The Acute Medical Unit – East discharge facilitators work closely with the Community Crisis Support Team and other agencies, to aid patient's discharge home. Visitors to patients on the Acute Medical Unit – East are asked to bring in any medication that the patient may be taking (in the original container where possible), a small amount of money and toiletries. Please note, The Acute Medical Unit – East is not a hospital ward, and patients are not expected to stay for longer than 24 hours.
