Who the ward is for

Patients who need treatment for an injury or who are having planned orthopaedic surgery.

About the ward

Linford Ward specialises in caring for female patients with orthopaedic injuries or having planned orthopaedic surgery, including:

  • surgery for orthopaedic conditions
  • emergency surgery for traumatic injuries
  • skeletal and skin traction
  • arthroscopic investigations
  • treatment for spinal injury
  • diagnostic surgery
  • specialist care for major joint replacements
  • treatment for acute and chronic infection
  • treatment for inflammatory conditions
  • physiotherapy and occupational therapy
  • treatment for acute and chronic pain
  • palliative care for terminally ill patients.

Ward staff meet regularly with carers and social care to discuss each patient’s progress and develop a plan for their ongoing care.

Number of beds

28 beds:

  • 20 beds in four-bed bays
  • 8 beds in side rooms, 4 with with ensuite facilities

Visiting Times

Open from 2.30pm - 8.30pm with a quiet time between 5pm - 6.30pm. The quiet time does not mean relatives and friends cannot visit, just that consideration needs to be given to activity and clinical interventions during this time.

Information for visitors

  • Children are allowed to visit at the discretion of the nurse in charge. Please ask before you visit. 
  • Flowers are permitted if they are wrapped in cellophane or within a sealed container.
  • Visitors are able to bring in food, however there are no facilities to store chilled foods or to cook food.

Meal Times 

Breakfast: 8am
Lunch: 12 - 1pm
(protected mealtime
12.30 - 1.30pm)

Supper: 5.30pm

Patient information folders are available. If there is not a copy in the bay then please ask a member of staff. If you need a specific leaflet please speak to the nursing team who will be happy to help.
