This general medical ward accepts both planned and emergency admissions, and specialises in the care of patients with endocrine conditions

In addition to general medical care, Mary Seacole Ward provides:

• Care of diabetic patients who are newly diagnosed
• Care of diabetic patients whose condition has become unstable due to illness
• Treatment for diabetic foot complications
• VAC Pump Therapy, to enhance healing
• Diagnosis and treatment for other endocrine conditions
• Pre and post operative care for endocrine patients having vascular surgery

The ward has three endocrine specialist consultants, one of whom is also a foot specialist. Staff work closely with the diabetes specialist nurse service and the outpatient Diabetic Foot Unit, both based on the ward. The Diabetic Foot Unit provides patients with regular foot reviews when additional foot treatment and care, such as redressing, is required.
