Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a forward thinking, dynamic place to work. We employ more than 4,500 staff in a variety of clinical and non-clinical roles.
We want patients to leave us feeling that they have received the best care and have been treated with dignity and respect. This requires the right people. Experience is obviously paramount, but so is the right attitude. We want people who will thrive in a competitive environment and who are willing to go the extra mile to make patients feel that they are important, and colleagues feel that you are an integral part of the team.
If you are looking for the quiet life, you are not the person for us. If you are looking to make a positive contribution and would enjoy working in a challenging environment where dedication and teamwork brings its rewards, then we would like to hear from you. We'll give you the motivation by providing excellent career packages and benefits, combined with the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals. All we need from you is the necessary expertise, good people skills and the right attitude.
Our vision is to have excellent hospitals providing high quality, safe care for our community.
Care and compassion are at the heart of everything we do.
Our values are:
Quality and safety driven
Value for money
We aim to:
Deliver increasingly high quality, safe, compassionate, patient-centred services.
Work together with our patients to improve their experience and achieve the best outcome.
Deliver care by skilled and caring staff who feel valued by the Trust in a culture of openness.
Work with health and social care partners for the benefit of all patients.
Provide services that are sustainable and deliver value for money.
National NHS staff survey
In 2013 all Trust staff were invited to participate in the national NHS staff survey. The survey is a valuable tool for the Trust to understand staff thoughts and views about a range of issues including the care that we provide, the support that staff receive from managers, the working environment, and the way staff work together to ensure high quality care is provided to patients.
The survey results are used by the Trust as a whole, and at a divisional level, to make changes to the way we work.
The outcome of the staff survey is on the NHS staff surveys website at www.nhsstaffsurveys.com.
Areas for improvement are shared with staff, and are available via the staff intranet.
The latest national NHS staff survey was conducted in December 2014, and results are expected in spring 2015.

The donation is deducted from pay before tax is assessed. The scheme is administered by Charities Trust, one of the largest national Payroll Giving Agencies in the UK.
NHS Pension Scheme – The scheme offers a range of retirement benefits and staff have the option of joining the scheme.
Better Options is our flexible benefits scheme. Better Options operates under a HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) approved arrangement known as Salary Sacrifice. Salary Sacrifice is when you give up part of your basic salary in exchange for non-cash benefits. In doing so, you give up salary that is subject to Income Tax and National Insurance to receive benefits, which are either exempt or, in many cases, treated more favourably for Income Tax and National Insurance purposes.
If you contribute to the NHS Pension Scheme, you will also save contributions. The outcome is that you increase the amount of your overall net remuneration.
The following are available as flexible benefits under Better Options:
Bikes for work: A tax-efficient way to have the use of a bicycle to travel to work.
Bus passes: Buy your annual bus pass the tax efficient way.
Car lease: Using NHS buying power and salary sacrifice savings you can have a fully maintained vehicle of your choice.(A separate booklet is available if you are interested in this option.)
