Supervision of Midwives

supervisionof_midwives2Supervision of Midwives

The Supervision of Midwives exists as part of a system of professional regulation designed to protect the public. It enables midwives to provide high quality care to mothers and babies during childbirth and ensure that midwifery practice is of a standard that protects the wellbeing of all mothers.

Please click here to view our supervision of midwifery annual report 2011-12.

How is this achieved?

  • Supervisors are an instrument for monitoring safe practice and ensuring that standards of practice are in line with the growing evidence upon which we can base our practice
  • This is achieved using the five standards set out by the Local Supervising Authority

These standards include:

  • Women focused maternity services
  • Midwives providing professional leadership and nurturing potential leaders.
  • Ensuring supervisors of midwives are approachable, accessible, and provide support and a safe environment for midwives in their practice.

Contact

The on-call Supervisor of Midwives is available 24 hours a day and can be contacted via the Trust switchboard or the Delivery Suite Coordinator.
