The tunes can keep on coming at Basildon Hospital radio, BHR 1287, thanks to an upgrade made possible by kind donations from Basildon Round Table and Billericay Round Table.
BHR 1287, which entertains patients at Basildon Hospital and is available via the internet for local listeners, was struggling with its outdated computers. The donation of £3,000 from Billericay Round Table and £1,500 from Basildon Round Table has allowed the station to upgrade its operating system to help things run more smoothly.
Jacqui James, chairman BHR 1287, explains: “We have been busy raising money for more than 18 months, with quizzes, sponsored events and selling off old CDs. Despite the generosity of local people we were still only halfway towards the sum we needed to upgrade our computers.
“It is absolutely wonderful to receive such a generous donation from the local Round Table. We are all very excited to be able to work with a more modern system to keep the station on air for patients and local people.”
Dan Jackson, chairman of Billericay Round Table said: “The majority of our members and their families have used the hospital at one time or another and listened to hospital radio, so there was no question that it was something we wanted to support.”
Paul Gibson, from Basildon Round Table added: “It is an absolute pleasure to donate to the hospital radio which entertains people when they are unwell and is such a worthy local cause.”
Both Basildon and Billericay Round Table are always looking for new members. To find out more about what they do and how to get involved, search for them on Facebook or visit their websites: www.billericayroundtable.co.uk/ and http://basildon.roundtable.co.uk/
