I understand

well being event

More than 140 former and current patients and their families joined together for our latest Health and Wellbeing day, aimed at those living with and beyond cancer in the Basildon and Thurrock area.

Our Health and Wellbeing events are designed to educate and help patients promote a positive and active lifestyle; increase their confidence and help them to deal with any physical or emotional distress associated with cancer.

Held at Woodlands School in Basildon, several speakers and support groups gave their time to offer information and advice, all to help patients to feel better about themselves, their diagnosis and the future. Topics covered included exercise, counselling, healthy eating and emotional wellbeing.

Katy Low, Macmillan lead cancer nurse at Basildon Hospital presented on the day and said:

“These events help increase patients’ confidence and knowledge, enabling them to manage the effects of diagnosis and treatments more easily and to better cope with the physical and emotional distress associated with cancer.”

Sue Barry, health and wellbeing coordinator at Basildon Hospital and organiser added:

“Our latest event was very well attended and to make sure we keep momentum going forward, we asked our patients and their carers to complete an evaluation form. Patient feedback is important when guiding our work within health and wellbeing”
