A Brentwood company has stepped up to support its local hospitals.
Anne and Jim Bender’s company, Bender International, have supplied denim fashion to big retailers such as Next
for many years but realised they could help out the NHS with personal protective equipment (PPE).
The couple first provided Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust with 1,200 scrubs which they sourced from contacts in Asia in early March.
Since then they have worked with local factories to provide the hospitals with another 6,000 scrubs and 10,000 gowns at cost price. Next will be a delivery of another 30,000 gowns made from a fabric which can be washed and reused.
Apart from the first shipment all the equipment has been produced in England.
Anne said: “We knew that we could get the scrubs and gowns made quickly and are delighted to be supporting our local hospitals.”
Jonathan Dunk, Chief Commercial Officer at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust said: “We’re so grateful to Anne and Jim, and to all of the other local businesses who are supporting our staff and patients in such a practical and beneficial way.”
