This service covers transport for patients attending appointments at Basildon Hospital, Orsett Hospital and St. Andrew's Centre and some outreach sites at Brentwood and Thurrock Community Hospitals.
All transport requests are dealt with by the hospital. Patients should contact the appointments centre or clinic/department they are due to attend for their appointment. The appropriate transport will be booked for patients with a ‘medical need’, which will be reassessed for each booking.
Please ensure that at least 24 hours notice is given for transport to be arranged. Please let the appointment centre know if you are unable to keep an appointment, to save a wasted journey.
The Trust is unable to provide transport for economic or social reasons and patients should make their own way to/from the hospital where possible.
GP referrals for direct access pathology or radiology tests are NOT included within this service and GPs should book transport via their Clinical Commissioning Group's preferred route for community activity.
- For all transport arrangements to appointments please contact the department you are going to.
- If this is a first appointment please arrange with the appointments centre (appointments centre: 01268 524900 ext 2900)
- If you do not have the number for your clinic please call the switchboard on: 01268 524900
Help with travelling expenses
Patients who do not have a medical need for NHS transport to hospital and get Income Support or Family Credit or are on a low income, can receive help with their travelling expenses under the Hospital Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS).
Full details of the scheme are available in leaflet (H11) NHS Travel Costs, which is available at hospitals and local offices of the DHSS.
