The following are available to staff:

  • Loans – An interest free season ticket loan scheme is available to assist permanent members of staff who wish to gain the advantages of purchasing annual season tickets for public transport. Information packs are also available from the Personnel Department.

  • Payroll Giving (Give As You Earn) - Payroll Giving is a flexible scheme which allows employees to give regularly, and on a tax-free basis, to charities and good causes of their choice. The donation is deducted from pay before tax is assessed. The scheme is administered by Charities Trust, one of the largest national Payroll Giving Agencies in the UK.

  • NHS Pension Scheme – The scheme offers a range of retirement benefits and staff have the option of joining the scheme.

Better Options

Better Options is our flexible benefits scheme. Better Options operates under a HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) approved arrangement known as Salary Sacrifice. Salary Sacrifice is when you give up part of your basic salary in exchange for non-cash benefits. In doing so, you give up salary that is subject to Income Tax and National Insurance to receive benefits, which are either exempt or, in many cases, treated more favourably for Income Tax and National Insurance purposes.

If you contribute to the NHS Pension Scheme, you will also save contributions. The outcome is that you increase the amount of your overall net remuneration.

The following are available as flexible benefits under Better Options:

  • Bikes for work: A tax-efficient way to have the use of a bicycle to travel to work.

  • Bus passes: Buy your annual bus pass the tax efficient way.

  • Car lease: Using NHS buying power and salary sacrifice savings you can have a fully maintained vehicle of your choice.(A separate booklet is available if you are interested in this option.)

  • Childcare vouchers: Choose childcare vouchers, the tax efficient way.

  • Free season ticket loan (not salary sacrifice)

The Trust provides an onsite OFSTED registered nursery (rated 'outstanding') for NHS staff with children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years. Seymour House Nursery has spaces for 34 children per day (excluding public holidays). Allocation is subject to availability.

A Childcare Voucher Scheme is in place, so parents can benefit from Tax breaks.

Emotional and spiritual guidance

The Department of Spiritual and Pastoral Care provides support, care, a listening ear and, when appropriate, religious care and prayer for all who come into the hospital - staff, patients and relatives.

'The Sanctuary', our multi-faith prayer room is available 24 hours a day for quiet reflection, meditation and prayer.

The restaurant at Basildon Hospital offers a choice of hot and cold meals, snacks and beverages to both staff and the general public. We also have cafes on site that provide hot and cold snacks and a WVRS shop selling confectionary and toiletries.

Social and leisure activities

Information on discounted theatre and concert tickets is available from the Personnel Reception, and on the staff intranet.

Kingswood Leisure Club offers discounted membership for our employees. The club offers immediate access to a multi-gym, squash courts, tennis courts and a swimming pool. It offers various classes and clubs.


We offer affordable accommodation to our employees.

NHS Professionals

NHS Professionals provide the Trust with a temporary staffing service that gives you more choice and more control over your work. If you want a few hours with the flexibility of choosing when and where to work, you can do this through NHS Professionals. Temporary work in a range of roles, including Healthcare Assistant, Staff Nurse, Admin Assistant, Biomedical Scientist etc is available at the Trust.
