NHS Constitution

The NHS belongs to everyone in the UK. The NHS Constitution has been developed to establish the rights and principles for patients, public and staff, to ensure the NHS operates fairly and effectively. It not only outlines what patients and taxpayers can expect from the NHS, but also what the NHS expects of them.

The constitution is set to be renewed every 10 years, with the involvement of the public, patients and staff.

The NHS belongs to all of us. There are things that we can all do for ourselves and for one another to help it works effectively. By recognizing that we can all make a significant contribution to our own, and family’s good health and well-being, registering with a GP practice (the main point of access to NHS care) and supplying accurate information about our health status, keeping all appointments or cancelling within reasonable time, following the course of treatment agreed with your doctor and participating in important health programmes such as vaccination.

Please see NHS Constitution documents below.

By Treating NHS staff with respect and giving positive and negative feedback, about the treatment and care you have received, can all help to ensure the NHS can do the best job possible.
